Abstract

Abstract

Indonesian batik has been known as one of the world's artistic cultural heritages. Based on data from the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia in 2020, the batik industry is also one of the sectors that are considered to have great potential in generating national economic growth. According to Katadata Insight Center Research, 85% of e-commerce transactions are dominated by Generation Z consumers (born 1997-2012, aged 9-25 years in 2021) and Millennials (born 1981-1996, aged 25-40 years in 2021). Therefore, by seeing this potential, this study aims to create batik motifs that can attract the attention of the younger generation by applying a loungewear pattern, namely casual clothes that are comfortable to wear but still suitable to be worn outside the home or for online meetings. The traditional batik that will be used in this research is the Javanese Batik Hokokai, because it has a storythat can be a separate story to be conveyed to the younger generation.

Abstract

This article discusses the design of the Digital Kultur application to become a virtual exhibition space for works of art/other visual arts. The background for this design is the acceleration of virtual technology which makes artistic activities undergo a transformation from a reality space to a virtual space. Digital art exhibitions are growing, with the support of various website and smartphone-based application platforms. This phenomenon is the basis for conducting research related to the Design of Digital Kultur as a 3D Website-Based Exhibition Space for Visual Art Works. The research methodology used is qualitative experimental, by developing Digital Kultur applications into digital interactive art spaces. The research results show that Digital Kultur as a virtual space that can hold visual art exhibitions is designed to have various features that make it easier for artists and audiences to access and enjoy exhibitions just like in a real gallery or exhibition space. This design is not only related to feature development, but also pays attention to the process of interaction between artists and audiences, so that the reality of the exhibition space for works of art can be fully felt even in a virtual space.

Abstract

Material selection is indubitably prominent in design creation. Technical and physical properties of a material are highly considered to determine function, utility, and manufacturing process. However, material selection is not only pivotal to design but also central to the users. Users have their own experiences with material that constructs their perception, association, and definition of materials. In fashion, the material experiences influence consumers’ purchasing decisions. Fashion consumers begin their reasoning with material thinking and interaction (if possible). The hands-on interaction of the product, where the material is implemented, stimulates memories that help their consuming decisions. Prior researches also argued that integration of material experiences in design will optimize outcomes, specifically providing user satisfaction. Those arguments inspired this research to investigate material experience in the design process. Experiences of material polyvinylchloride were observed by adopting the Material Driven Design method and the material experience’s pattern were illustrated by utilizing the Meaning of Material model. According to the research done in the Do-It-Yourself approach, material experiences were identified and seen transforming in every step of the process. Furthermore, the study of material experience was found beneficial for helping designers in understanding and measuring the intangible success of product, specifically user satisfaction.

Abstract

Film is an important medium to represent the social reality that occurs in society. This can be seen from how a film can present a portrait of reality in symbolic forms full of meaning. The symbolic forms in the film can be related to the psychoanalytic theory in the film. The psychoanalysis in the film can be attributed to the signs in the film. One of the films full of psychic codes is 27 Steps of May (2019). This film directed by Ravi Bharwani tells about the trauma of survivors of sexual violence. May (played by Raihaanun) was the victim of gang rape when she was 14 years old. Due to deep trauma, his life later turned into a life without connection, emotion and even communication. This film shows how trauma greatly affects a person's life. The purpose of this study was to determine the psychic meaning of the codes in the film 27 Steps of May. The method used is a text analysis method with a structural semiotic approach. Semiotics is used to reveal the connotative meaning hidden behind the media text as a whole. The semiotics used is Roland Barthes' semiotics model. The results of this study are in the form of a description of the psychic codes in the film and how the body language and codes of the actors are related to psychological expressions. The results of this study were May, who hallucinated a hole in the wall inside her bedroom. This refers to the gestures and body language that are displayed in the scene as well as the psychic condition of May who is a schizophrenic, where she cannot understand the world around her normally because she is hallucinating.
